  1. Peel and cube the bottle gourd.
  2. Heat mustard oil, temper panch phoron and bay leaf.
  3. Add bottle gourd, turmeric, and salt.
  4. Cover and cook on low heat until soft (gourd releases its own water).
  5. Add sugar and grated coconut.
  6. Cook until slightly dry. Serve with rice and dal.
