  1. Cook toor dal and mash.
  2. Boil tomatoes with tamarind paste and rasam powder.
  3. Add cooked dal and water, bring to a boil.
  4. Heat ghee, temper mustard, cumin, garlic, chillies, and curry leaves.
  5. Pour tempering into the rasam.
  6. Garnish with coriander.
  7. Pour over hot steamed rice. Serve with papad.
